Anaemia Management and Pre- Dialysis Education Specialist Nurse
The Renal Unit at Glan Clwyd Hospital provides a comprehensive anaemia management and pre-dialysis education service with clinics held at the Renal and Diabetes Centre at the hospital. It is when patient's are referred to the renal clinic that they will have their first contact with Anaemia Management and Pre-Dialysis Specialist Nurse Liz Davies. It is Liz's responsibility for the anaemia management of haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, pre-dialysis and renal transplant patients within all areas of the renal medicine unit. Evidence shows that with anaemia treatment patients experience a number of clinical benefits including the improvement in quality of life, reduced cardiovascular events, reduced days spent in hospital and reduced mortality rate. Liz is also responsible for the education of pre-dialysis patients, advising on informed choice based on clinical assessments and lifestyle. The accurate assessment of patients and their families at the pre-dialysis stage has a direct impact on the appropriateness of renal replacement therapy including dialysis, transplantation and conservative management. |
